The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has seized 317 illegal walkie-talkie sets and other items worth Tk 50 lakh during raids in various areas of the capital.
The telecom regulator has arrested five people for their alleged involvement in selling and purchasing these unlicensed goods.
A team of BTRC comprising members of Rapid Action Battalion-10 (RAB) conducted raids in Syedabad, Manipuripara, Rajarbagh, and Sheorapara areas on Saturday and Sunday as part of a nationwide operation to curb the illegal sale and storage of illegal radio accessories.

According to the BTRC guidelines, any person or company wishing to import radio-frequency equipment must obtain an NOC from the telecom regulator.
BTRC has also banned black walkie-talkies for widespread use, as miscreants are using black walkie-talkies to cheat people and commit crimes in the name of law enforcement.
